About Your Trip

South Africa Gourmet Experience

Per Person

This vast country is undoubtedly one of the most culturally and geographically diverse places on earth. Fondly known by locals as the ‘Rainbow Nation’, South Africa has 11 official languages and its multicultural inhabitants are influenced by a fascinating mix of African, Asian and European cultures. Spend your days: discovering the gourmet restaurants, impressive art and nightlife scenes and fine beaches of Cape Town; enjoying a typical local braai (barbecue) in the Soweto township; browsing the bustling Indian markets in Durban; or sampling some of the world’s finest wines at the myriad wine estates dotted around the picturesque Cape Winelands. There are plenty of historical attractions to explore including the Zululand battlefields of KwaZulu-Natal, the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg and Robben Island. Above all else, South Africa’s attraction lies in its remarkably untamed wilderness with its astonishing range of wildlife roaming freely across massive unfenced game reserves such as the world famous Kruger National Park.

DAY 2

Cape Town, South Africa

Set at the confluence of the Indian and Atlantic oceans and backed by the iconic Table Mountain, the bustling city of Cape Town presents an alluring combination of drawcards. Incredible powdery white beaches, highly acclaimed wine routes, and astonishingly beautiful mountain trails surround a cosmopolitan hub. This diverse metropolis is filled with superb shops and restaurants, extraordinary heritage monuments, a multitude of entertainment venues, and a spectacular, chic waterfront harbour.

Lunch Recommendation – The Silo Rooftop

The Silo Rooftop offers guests a relaxed, al fresco lunch experience with spectacular panoramic views of Cape Town from the tallest building in the V&A Waterfront. Guests can look forward to sharing platters, man’oushe (baked flatbread) topped with fresh ingredients, salads and poké bowls. Enjoy a glass of bubbly, fine South African wines or a classic cocktail while enjoying views of Cape Town.

Dinner Recommendation – Pier Restaurant

Situated in the beautiful Pierhead Building on the upper level, you will find PIER Restaurant, which will bring an intimate, multi-course fine-dining experience to the one of the world’s most-loved destinations. With Norris-Rogers as Head chef, you can expect the finest local produce to take centre stage, with a special emphasis on inspiration from the ocean – and, the table side theatrics guests have come to expect from the team.

DAY 3

Cape Town, South Africa

Recommendation – FYN

FYN – in reference to fynbos and Afrikaans for the word “fine” – located on the top floor of Speakers’ Corner on Parliament Street revels in the most superb views of Lion’s Head and Table Mountain. With a distinct cosmopolitan and Manhattan-inspired feel, the menu (and décor) is African-inspired, with an overarching Japanese aesthetic, making for an utterly seductive (and delicious) combination of tastes, flavours, textures and styles. Recently voted the 37th Best restaurant in the world and the highest ranked restaurant in Africa.

DAY 4

Cape Town, South Africa

Recommendation – Salsify

Salsify burst onto the Cape Town scene with its exciting, juxtaposed décor, elegant food and sensational Camps Bay views. Perched on the lower slopes of Lion’s Head, the Roundhouse building looks out over Camps Bay’s leafy glen to the ocean and Twelve Apostles mountains. The space overlooking the incredible view has been kept beautifully classic – featuring white tablecloths and Persian rugs – but the entrance room and back lounge have been given an electric shock with some more modern graffiti.

DAY 5

Cape Town, South Africa

Recommendation – Tintswalo Atlantic

Dining at the incredible seaside setting of Tintswalo Atlantic on Chapman’s Peak Drive, is unlike any other, with the Atlantic Ocean lapping below your table – and like with Liam Tomlinson’s other projects, this Chefs Warehouse (CW) is steered by a young and talented team of chefs. The contemporary tapas is a set menu of small plates for sharing over 4 courses with an emphasis on fresh, local and sustainable that pays homage to its ocean setting.

The estates here attract wine experts from around the globe with their Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cap Classique sparkling wine (among others). Five-star restaurants alongside the cellars are surrounded by the same jaw-dropping valley scenes that have brought artists and writers to the area for centuries.

In partnership with Chris and Andrea Mullineux, the talented husband and wife team behind the world-renowned wines produced on Roundstone Farm in the Swartland appellation as well as at Leeu Estates in Franschhoek, Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines offer immersive tastings at The Wine Studio on Leeu Estates.
All curated tastings are presented by dedicated hosts who will guide guests in the finer nuances of these premium handcrafted wines.

Recommendation – La Petite Colombe

Sister property to the acclaimed, La Colombe in Constantia, La Petite Colombe recently moved to a spectacular new location on Leeu Estates. Floor to ceiling windows mean that both the inside tables and those outdoors enjoy Leeu Estates’ glorious views over beautifully manicured gardens and vineyards, onto the valley and mountain. Since its inception, John Norris Rogers has been Head Chef at Le Petite Colombe, producing dishes that reflect his extensive international travels and using only the finest local produce. Many of the fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as herbs and spices, are picked daily from Leeu Estates’ organic farm – just a few minutes’ walk from the restaurant.

DAY 8

Franschhoek, South Africa

A trip to the Western Cape is not complete without a jaunt through the Cape Winelands. Explore this glorious route in the company of a true wine expert, qualified Cape Wine Master and an 8th generation descendent of the well-known Cape ‘wine’ family, the Melcks’.  This tour is about so much more than just sipping sublime wines. Aside from Harry’s relationships with winemakers, owners and growers – and his wealth of wine knowledge gained, locally and abroad, his wine adventures are all about the interactions and the stories he can share on the wine industry now, and then. At the foremost Harry is a storyteller and designer of bespoke, often not repeatable, experiences.

Recommendation – Le coin Français

Le coin Français is a restaurant really and truly for Franschhoek. Both in concept and in name, the aptly named “Le coin Français”, which literally means Franschhoek, will embody the essence of the valley in heritage, cuisine, art and wine. It will feature cutting edge methods meeting time tested French elegance in cuisine, a carefully selected locally themed wine list to showcase the best local wines, a French sommeliers selection, and an ever-evolving collaboration of art.

DAY 9

The Whale Coast is a rugged stretch of South African coastline, snaking along the Atlantic Ocean and encompassing the towns of Kleinmond, Hermanus, Stanford, and Gansbaai. The route is backed by fynbos-covered mountains and includes farms, rivers, caves, and valleys. Between June and October, and especially over August, September, and October, the humpback or southern right whales that come here to mate and give birth can be seen frolicking offshore. The Whale Festival, held annually in September in Hermanus, is a special event featuring live music, markets, and much more. Throughout the year, explore the historic villages, and enjoy bird watching, wine tasting, paragliding, fat bike rides, river rafting, game viewing, mountain biking, and golfing. Don’t miss a visit to the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary in Gansbaai.
