In June, my sister, daughter, and I set sail on Virgin Voyages’ Valiant Lady from Miami for a 5-night cruise to Turks & Caicos and Bimini Island, with two glorious sea days in between. Having cruised with several other lines over the years, I was eager to see how Virgin stacked up—and let me tell you, this was no typical cruise experience.
Arrival & First Impressions
Embarkation was later than most cruises—we weren’t allowed to board until about 2 PM, and there isn’t a waiting lounge at the port, so don’t arrive too early. But the later boarding is balanced by a relaxed disembarkation time of up to 10:30 AM on the last day—no early wake-up calls or rushed mornings here!
From the moment we boarded, the ship’s bold red-themed design caught the eye. It’s modern and striking without feeling over the top. Virgin also excels at building excitement pre-cruise with reminders to pre-book restaurants, shows, and activities through their Virgin Voyages app.
The Virgin Voyages ship is truly impressive, with remarkable attention to detail and some refreshingly ‘outside the box’ design choices. The only area that doesn’t quite match that wow factor is the size of the main pool. However, this hardly detracts from the overall experience—it’s designed more as a stylish social spot to cool down and relax, rather than for swimming laps..
The crew onboard Virgin Voyages? They can’t but make you laugh, full of energy, and rock some seriously cool uniforms—no stuffy vibes here. Everything’s informal, fun, and helpful, with zero status or stripes. The entertainment team especially keeps things light and tongue-in-cheek, making every interaction engaging and relaxed. The crew isn’t just working the ship—they’re genuinely there to make you feel welcome and part of the experience.
Life Onboard: Modern, Fun, and Fresh
Your Cabin Experience on Virgin Voyages: Comfort Meets Modern Luxury
Virgin Voyages really knows how to blend style, comfort, and clever design. We stayed in a Central Sea Terrace stateroom on Deck 11, which truly felt like a modern sanctuary at sea.
Thoughtful & Spacious Design
Our Sea Terrace featured plenty of storage, making unpacking effortless—even for five nights. The layout maximizes space without feeling cramped, proving smart design beats sheer square footage Virgin offers a variety of cabin options, including suites and rooms with pull-out beds or expansive balconies.
Modern Tech at Your Fingertips
The cabin tech impressed as much as the décor. Each room has an interactive tablet that controls lighting, temperature, TV streaming, and room service ordering—a seamless 21st-century convenience.
Everyday Comforts Delivered
Fresh water is delivered daily, with sparkling water on request. Beach towels are refreshed each day, so heading out to the pool or beach club is effortless.
Balcony Bliss
The Sea Terrace balcony is a true highlight—a private outdoor space with stunning ocean views and a signature hand-woven hammock, perfect for morning coffee or sunset cocktails.
Cabin Options to Suit Your Style
- Sea Terrace Staterooms: Modern, with balconies and smart design—ideal for most travelers.
- RockStar Quarters: Exclusive perks like private sundecks, in-room bars, and dedicated service.
- Mega RockStar Suites: Ultra-luxe with hot tubs, music rooms, and premium amenities—perfect for special occasions or indulgence.
Final Thoughts on Cabins
Virgin Voyages’ cabins perfectly capture the line’s spirit: modern, thoughtful, and refreshingly comfortable. Whether relaxing in your hammock or catching up on sleep in the fold-down bunk (in a triple room), your stateroom is more than just a place to rest—it’s your personal retreat on an unforgettable voyage.
Health, Wellness & Recharging at Sea
Virgin Voyages takes a fresh, modern approach to wellness—luxury spa meets cool gym with a dash of fun. Whether you want to stretch into sunrise yoga, hit the gym hard, or just relax and recharge, there’s something for everyone.
Fitness That Feels Good
- The B-Complex: A high-end fitness center split into four zones—Burn (cardio), Build (strength), Balance (yoga/stretch), and Bike (spin).
- Group Classes: Included in your fare—yoga, HIIT, boxing, bungee workouts, spin, barre, and more. Fun and energizing, never intimidating.
- Outdoor Athletic Club: Running track with ocean views, basketball court, outdoor boxing ring, and a rare padel court at sea.
No pressure, just great spaces, great music, and great vibes.
Spa & Recovery
The Redemption Spa is a serene escape featuring a hydrotherapy pool, steam room, sauna, mud room, salt therapy chamber, and cold plunge pool. Treatments include massages, facials, acupuncture, and even IV vitamin therapy. Spa access is included for Mega RockStar guests or available via pass or per treatment. For quiet relaxation, head to the adults-only Wellness Pool near The Dock.
Wellness Beyond the Gym
Wellness isn’t just about workouts or spa—it’s a lifestyle onboard. Healthy food options abound, from fresh poke bowls to protein-rich dishes. Sea Terrace hammocks invite slow mornings or sunset naps. And if you’re feeling adventurous, the onboard tattoo parlour, Squid Ink, is a one-of-a-kind touch!
Virgin Voyages makes health and wellness accessible, exciting, and entirely your own—all adults-only, all at your pace.
Dining: No Buffets, Just Brilliant Food
Virgin ditches the traditional buffet and fixed dining times for a la carte restaurants with incredible variety:

- Razzle Dazzle: Vegetarian-forward with some meat options
- The Test Kitchen: Experimental tasting menus
- Pink Agave: Upscale Mexican with a mezcal twist

- The Dock House: Mediterranean bites with sunset vibes
Breakfasts were a highlight—freshly prepared dishes with no buffet lines.
Entertainment: Unexpected and Eclectic
Virgin ditches traditional Broadway shows for immersive, quirky experiences:
- Live music venues with high-quality acts
- DJ sets, karaoke, interactive games, and late-night parties
- The Happenings Crew, lively hosts who pop up all over the ship (no traditional cruise director)
- Signature events like Scarlet Night (dress in red!) and the PJ Party (yes, pajamas on deck!)
The vibe was electric with a younger, vibrant crowd (mostly American guests on this sailing), creating a fun, inclusive atmosphere.
Ports of Call: Laid-Back Luxury
Turks & Caicos
We rented a golf cart for $80/4 hours and explored independently—no crowds, no stress, just beautiful beaches and turquoise water. Virgin offers excursions too, but DIY was perfect here.
Bimini Island
Paradise! Virgin’s private beach club is just a mile from the ship, reached by trolley. White sands, turquoise waters, fabulous Caribbean-themed food—pure holiday bliss.
Adults-Only Vibe: No Kids, Just Grown-Up Fun
Virgin Voyages is strictly adults-only (18+), and it shows. The atmosphere is relaxed, stylish, and peaceful—no screaming kids or strollers to dodge. From curated cocktails and spa offerings to edgy entertainment and beach days, everything caters to grown-up tastes.
If you’re used to family-friendly cruises and want something more sophisticated or serene, Virgin Voyages is a game changer.
