Brigitte, our Marketing Manager and her husband recently spent a glorious week in the Seychelles.
Imagine stepping into a world of turquoise waters, pristine sandy beaches, and a tropical oasis unlike any other. That’s exactly what I experienced during our one-week holiday in Seychelles. From snorkeling adventures to island hopping, quiz nights to sunbathing, every moment was filled with exhilarating activities and tranquil relaxation. Join me as I take you through the highlights of my incredible journey in this tropical paradise.
Day 1: Arrival in Mahe
As we landed in Mahe, Seychelles and made our way to Beau Vallon, the excitement was building up within me. The warm gentle sea breeze and the dazzling views of the Indian Ocean greeted me, setting the perfect tone for my holiday. We checked into a beautiful beachfront resort that would be my haven for the next seven days. With anticipation running high, we wasted no time and headed straight to the powdery sands. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we were left in awe of the breathtaking sunset that painted the sky in vibrant hues.
Day 2: Snorkeling Adventure
Thrilled to explore the underwater wonders of Mahe, we set off on a snorkeling adventure. Booked through The Travel Suite, our snorkeling guide collected us from the hotel and we were onboard our glass bottom boat within 20mins. Equipped with a mask and fins, we submerged into the crystal-clear waters, eager to discover the hidden treasures beneath the surface. The vibrant coral reefs unfolded before our eyes, revealing a kaleidoscope of colours and an abundance of marine life. Swimming alongside tropical fish, encountering graceful sea turtles, and witnessing dolphins playfully leaping in the distance left me in awe of the ocean’s beauty. Having worked up an appetite we took a short boat ride to one of the islands where an open fire BBQ awaited us. Fresh local fish, sticky fragrant rice and deliciously sweet sun ripened tomato salad was on offer accompanied by an ice cold locally brewed beer, SeyBrew!
Day 3: Island Hopping
One of the highlights of my holiday was the exhilarating island-hopping excursion. Setting sail from Mahe Beau Vallon, we embarked on a boat journey to explore neighboring islands such as Praslin and La Digue. Each island boasted its own unique charm, from pristine beaches fringed with palm trees to nature reserves teeming with endemic flora and fauna. Vallée de Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage site on Praslin, stood out as a sanctuary for the rare Coco de Mer palm and the Seychelles black parrot. It was a day filled natural beauty and we fortuitously meet a young marine biologist (also a guest on the excursion) working on a nearby island monitoring marine life populations, he was a wealth of knowledge and it was encouraging to hear all that is being done to preserve the island sea life!
Day 4: Quiz Night and Local Cuisine
Immersing ourselves in the vibrant Seychellois culture, we joined a lively quiz night filled with locals and fellow travelers. Testing our knowledge of the islands’ history, culture, and wildlife, we relished in the friendly competition and the opportunity to connect with the warm-hearted people of Seychelles. The evening was accompanied by a delightful array of Creole cuisine, bursting with fresh seafood, tropical fruits, and aromatic spices. Dancing to the rhythmic beats of Sega music, we truly felt the spirit of Seychelles come alive.
Day 5: Relaxation and Spa Treatments
In great need of rejuvenation, I dedicated a day to pure relaxation and pampering. I indulged in a range of spa treatments at a luxurious wellness center in Mahe Beau Vallon. From soothing massages to invigorating facials, the skilled therapists transported me to a world of serenity and bliss. The tranquil ambiance, combined with the therapeutic techniques, melted away any residual stress, leaving me feeling refreshed, renewed and ready for an afternoon of sun and sea!
Day 6: Nature Trails and Takamaka
Eager to explore the untouched beauty of Mahe, we embarked on a guided nature trail walk. The lush rainforests enveloped us as we navigated through winding paths, marveling at the rare flora and fauna that called this place home. Sweeping viewpoints offered breathtaking panoramas of the coastline and the neighboring islands, reaffirming the incredible natural splendor of Seychelles. The nature trail was easy going and there was plenty of time to stop and take photo’s, I would advise to start out on this excursion early to get the best sunrise views and avoid the mid-day heat.
Every Friday evening the locals gather at the Takamaka plantation where exotic rum cocktails and street fare is served from a food truck operated by a well-known local chef. The La Plaine St. André distillery is an iconic heritage site that is home to a museum, a medicinal garden, historical ruins and of course, two Giant Aldabra tortoises – Taka and Maka. Friday nights are lively affairs and well worth the visit! Be sure to buy a bottle of Takamaka Rum to bring home with you!
Day 7: Beachside Bliss and Farewell
On our final day in Seychelles, we surrendered to the enchantment of Mahe Beau Vallon’s beaches. We spent the day lounging on the beach, taking refreshing dips in the warm waters, and indulging in a little kayaking and paddleboarding. With the sun casting a golden glow, we soaked up the last moments of this tropical paradise, cherishing every second. As we bid goodnight to the Seychelles, carrying with us memories that would forever hold a special place in our hearts.
